Course Overview

This half-day preparedness training provides ample time for discussion and administering the pre- and posttests and can fit within your current emergency preparedness training or stand alone. RVESCUE provides the facilitator for this ToucanED program to your company

All participants in the Pandemic Ready training receive a Participant Guide that provides the content, including thumbnails, fact sheets and important references and resources.

Course Objectives

Why do we need to plan for a pandemic if we already have an emergency plan? There are differences we need to be aware of. For example, most emergency plans advise us to prepare for sheltering in place for 3–4 days. If there were to be an influenza pandemic, we would need to shelter in place for up to 10 days. That means that we must plan for continuity of operations — in the workplace, schools, the hospitality and transportation industries, grocery and retail — and continuity of lifestyle for ourselves and our loved ones. When the local public health officer dismisses all students from schools, it has an impact the entire community.

Pandemic Ready is about the basics. The primary training vehicle is a professional Power Point presentation containing more than 50 illustrative slides focusing on the latest facts from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other authoritative sources. There is a procedure for active discussion, and pre/post tests

Topics

Participants will become knowledgeable about the essentials of these topics:

  • statistics, history and science about pandemic flu

  • non pharmaceutical interventions and social distancing

  • tips on treating colds and flu - when and when not to seek medical help.
